Mercedes-Benz LA 911 B

Chapter one

"Today, the 19.8.1998, i got the confirmation that i won the auction and now own an old Mercedes truck 911 LA."

The Volvo always fascinated me because of his superior off road capabilities. Easy to maintain combined with an extreme reliability, it was for three years the almost perfect base for most of my tours.

Other hobbies like diving became more and more important. Also problems with corosion on the Volvo and changed requirements forced me to look for a new car. What i was looking for were more space in the cabin, higher possible load, stronger engine, possibility for heating the cabin and more than that a larger range. The conclusion was : I need a truck.

Trying to find some information on the web, I had to realize, that Mercedes trucks seem to be unknown to the world of off roaders. In Germany they were widely used and well known. Especially the 4WD versions had a good reputation and were used by the army, the Red Cross and comunity services. Now a days you can find many of them in Africa or the Middle East. The mostly build series were the 710, 911 and 1117 (the "11" indicating the max. load in tons and the 17 referring to the roughly 170 hp of the engine).

My "new" truck - mileage only about 30tkm after 18 years serving for the german police

After a heavy drinking session including an extremly stupid bet (and also to avoid costs for buying new tyres and some other spares) I decided to sell the truck. Worst of all I found easily a victim willing to pay the price. So it was sold on 24th of June, 2000
:-(((((
